Alabama’s Hard Hitting Governor
So last October the Kentucky fiasco where the Governor of Kentucky tried to seize over 140 online casino domain names was the biggest issue to hit the world of American Gambling both on and offline since the Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was allowed to pass on a national level. This act declared online gambling illegal and effectively hobbled American online gambling by restricting US Citizens’ access to certain areas of online banking. The act is aimed at protecting American citizens from scam casinos designed to bilk them of their money never mind that casinos in the UK, the Caribbean and much of Europe have successfully been policing their own online casinos for years.
This year Alabama Governor Bob Riley is instituting his own crack down on gambling. He has circumvented even the State Attorney General to ban many types of electronic gambling machines at local land based casinos in Alabama citing that he believes these electronic machines fall under the banner of internet and thus illegal gambling. Even the State Attorney General disagrees with him but Riley has used his power despite any arguments made against the ban on these machines.
